A smaller mixer with big-booth ambitions

AlphaTheta’s DJM-V5 is one of the more interesting mixer launches of 2026 because it takes ideas associated with the flagship DJM-V10 and compresses them into a three-channel format. For many DJs, that format is the sweet spot: two main decks, one auxiliary source, and enough routing for hybrid setups without the physical bulk of a six-channel club mixer.

Designed for creative mixing, not just summing channels

The DJM-V5 inherits a 4-band EQ approach, long-throw 60 mm faders, compressor, filters, and Send FX. AlphaTheta says the unit is 30% smaller than the DJM-V10 while still retaining a pro-style feel. The new Soft Mix Curve is designed to create smoother transitions by gently reducing high frequencies as a fader is introduced.

Six Send FX and a new cross-pass filter

The mixer includes six Send FX: Short Delay, Reverb, Shimmer, Tape Echo, PingPong, and Echo-Verb. Each channel has a dedicated send knob, while the time knob behaves differently depending on the selected effect. The DJM-V5 also introduces a cross-pass filter mode, which preserves low-end energy while shaping mids and highs. That could be especially useful for vocal phrases, melodic loops, and long blends where DJs want movement without thinning out the groove.

Software and DVS workflows

The DJM-V5 connects to rekordbox for Mac/Windows and Serato DJ Pro over USB-C, with DVS support depending on the relevant software license. It also supports PRO DJ LINK with compatible players such as the CDJ-3000X and CDJ-3000, allowing BPM-synced effects, Link Cue previewing, and personal mixer settings loaded from USB or rekordbox.

SonicLink built in

The most forward-looking feature may be built-in SonicLink. Pairing the DJM-V5 with compatible AlphaTheta headphones enables ultra-low-latency wireless monitoring, reducing one of the last cable tethers in the booth. Wireless cueing will not be for every DJ, but for streaming setups, compact booths, and mobile rigs, it is a sign of where AlphaTheta wants monitoring to go.

DJ.Software take

The DJM-V5 is not just a smaller V10. It is a signal that mixers are becoming software-aware performance hubs: DVS interface, effects processor, PRO DJ LINK node, recording/streaming tool, and wireless monitoring transmitter in one box. For rekordbox and Serato DJs who want a premium mixer without moving to a full six-channel layout, the V5 deserves attention.
