SoundSwitch

SoundSwitch is a professional lighting control application designed specifically for DJs, developed by inMusic (the parent company of Denon DJ and Numark). It automates DMX lighting synchronization with DJ music, allowing DJs to add a professional light show to their performances without needing a separate lighting technician or complex lighting programming knowledge.

The core concept is elegant: SoundSwitch analyzes the audio playing through the DJ's system and synchronizes DMX lighting fixtures to the music's beat, energy, and structure automatically. When a drop hits, the lights respond. During a breakdown, the lighting intensity decreases. The result is a reactive, musical light show that feels manually programmed but runs automatically in sync with whatever the DJ plays.

SoundSwitch works in two modes: scripted and auto. In scripted mode, DJs can pre-program lighting scenes for specific tracks, setting up detailed lighting cues tied to specific points in the music. In auto mode, the software's AI analyzes the audio in real time and generates appropriate lighting responses without any pre-programming. Most DJs use a hybrid approach — scripting key tracks and relying on auto mode for the rest.

The software supports standard DMX-512 protocol and works with any DMX-compatible lighting fixtures — moving heads, LED pars, laser systems, strobes, fog machines, and LED strips. A built-in fixture library includes profiles for hundreds of popular lighting fixtures, and custom profiles can be created for specialized equipment. SoundSwitch connects to DMX interfaces via USB, and inMusic's own Engine OS hardware can output DMX directly, eliminating the need for a computer.

Integration with the DJ ecosystem is tight. SoundSwitch syncs with Engine DJ, Serato DJ Pro, and Denon DJ standalone hardware. On Engine OS devices like the Prime 4+ and SC6000, SoundSwitch runs directly on the hardware without a computer — the DJ's music player and lighting controller in one device. For mobile DJs, wedding DJs, and event professionals who provide their own lighting, SoundSwitch transforms a basic light setup into a responsive, professional show with minimal additional effort.
