Rekordbox for Mobile
Rekordbox for Mobile (previously known as rekordbox for iOS/Android) is the mobile companion to AlphaTheta's desktop rekordbox application. It extends the rekordbox ecosystem to smartphones and tablets, allowing DJs to manage their music libraries, analyze tracks, and prepare for performances on the go.
The primary use case is remote library management. DJs can import tracks from their device's music library, cloud storage services, or streaming platforms directly into rekordbox mobile. The app performs track analysis including BPM detection, key detection, waveform generation, and beat grid creation — the same analysis that the desktop version performs. This means DJs can prepare tracks during their commute, while traveling, or whenever inspiration strikes, and sync the prepared data back to their desktop library.
Cue point and loop editing on mobile is a standout feature. DJs can set hot cues, memory cues, and loops while previewing tracks through headphones. These cue points sync to the desktop rekordbox application and transfer to Pioneer DJ hardware via USB export. The ability to prepare cue points on a phone and have them appear on CDJs at the club is incredibly convenient for working DJs.
The app includes a basic DJ performance mode with two decks, crossfader, EQ, and effects — allowing casual mixing directly from the phone. While this isn't intended to replace desktop DJing, it's useful for practice, casual mixing, and verifying that track preparations sound correct before a gig. The interface follows rekordbox's familiar visual language with color-coded waveforms.
Cloud Library Sync connects the mobile app to the rekordbox desktop library, ensuring playlists, cue points, and analysis data stay synchronized across devices. The app supports connectivity with Pioneer DJ's DDJ-200 controller via Bluetooth, creating a compact mobile DJ setup. Available on iOS and Android, rekordbox for Mobile is free to download with basic features, and premium features are available through a rekordbox subscription plan.
