SoundCloud Deadline Hits rekordbox Users
SoundCloud streaming in rekordbox needs attention now
AlphaTheta has issued an important warning for DJs who use SoundCloud inside rekordbox: update to the latest version, re-analyze SoundCloud tracks where needed, and be prepared to reset cue points. According to the official rekordbox notice, SoundCloud tracks will no longer load in earlier rekordbox versions after June 30, 2026.
The reason is a change to SoundCloud’s audio file format. AlphaTheta says SoundCloud streaming tracks can no longer be loaded in earlier versions of rekordbox, and that grid or cue settings previously created for SoundCloud tracks may not line up correctly after updating. The affected versions listed by rekordbox are Mac/Windows version 7.2.9 and earlier, plus iOS/Android version 4.6.1 and earlier.
What DJs need to do
- Update rekordbox. Mac/Windows users should move to the latest rekordbox release, while mobile users should update via the App Store or Google Play.
- Filter your collection for SoundCloud tracks. rekordbox recommends using the Attribute filter to show SoundCloud-only tracks.
- Re-analyze affected tracks. This refreshes the analysis against the changed stream format.
- Check hot cues and memory cues manually. AlphaTheta specifically warns that existing cue points may not be set correctly and may need to be deleted and recreated.
Why this is a bigger streaming lesson
This is exactly the sort of operational risk that makes streaming different from owning local files. A local WAV or MP3 can still break if it is moved, renamed, or corrupted, but a streaming track can change upstream without the DJ choosing to replace it. When that happens, grids, cue points, beat jumps, and prepared routines can all become assumptions rather than guarantees.
For casual practice, the fix may be a minor inconvenience. For wedding DJs, bar residents, open-format DJs, or anyone using SoundCloud crates in public, it is a real prep task. If a set depends on SoundCloud material, run the update and re-analysis process before the June 30 cutoff, then audition the most important transitions again.
A practical prep workflow
Start with your high-value playlists: openers, closers, request staples, routines, and tracks with dense cue work. Re-analyze those first, rebuild any cues that moved, and then export or sync a fresh backup of your rekordbox library. After that, decide whether key SoundCloud-only tracks should be replaced with purchased local files for mission-critical sets.
The short version: this is not just a rekordbox maintenance notice. It is a reminder that streamed crates need inspection windows just like firmware, drivers, and USB exports.
